Valentine’s Farm Truck Mini Crate

Share

I made this Valentine’s Farm Truck Mini Crate for $2 using items from the Dollar Tree!  Also, I got to eat a box of chocolates in order to do so!

Finding great finds shopping the Dollar Tree has always been a love of mine.  However, as a stay at home mom in the midst of a pandemic who lives in a town with no craft store, shopping the Dollar Tree has become less about the fun and more about the SANITY!

It is truly amazing how quickly you can blow the budget shopping at the dollar store. Anyone else!? From the total bill you would have never guessed that I had a budget in mind for my projects, but I did.   I wanted to create some easy inexpensive Valentine’s decorations using only Dollar Tree items.  My goal was to use already accumulated supplies and keep my out of pocket to less than $10 for three decorations.  I did it for $6, got to eat chocolates, and added the Valentine’s Farm Truck Mini Crate I’ll show you how to make here, the Valentine’s ‘Stop in the Name of Love’ Sign, and the Mini Love Note Holder all to my Valentine’s decorations.

This Valentine’s Farm Truck Mini Crate is an extremely easy and simple decoration to make.  Added bonus you get to eat chocolate!

Let’s Create!

Supplies Needed to Make your Valentine’s Farm Truck Mini Crate

  • A box of Dollar Tree chocolates with the Valentine’s farm truck on the cover or another design if you prefer
  • White paint watered down
  • Mod Podge – Satin
  • Paint brush – sponge type works best for the whitewashing and a brush type works best for application of the Mod Podge
  • Protective covering for your work surface

Making your Valentine’s

Farm Truck Mini Crate

  1. Mix  your white paint and water to create a whitewash solution.  I just mixed it until I got the result I wanted but would say it was roughly a 50/50 mix as I wanted the wood color to show through. I painted the crate using a small sponge brush.

  1. While the crate is drying, dismantle the lid from your box of chocolates.  No judgement if you eat all the chocolates.  Cut the truck out.

  1. Apply Mod Podge to the back of the truck and put it on the crate where you would like it.  I had to hold it in place for a few minutes to get it to adhere. Then, apply Mod Podge over the top and coat the truck as well as the front of the crate.  Since you are working with cardboard here you might have to hold the truck in place a little here and there to get it to adhere. I only ended up doing one coat of Mod Podge.

  1. All done! Seriously so simple, right!?

Now what to fill it with?
The combination of the Mod Podge and cardboard give it an almost 3D look!
