Combining my love for my parents, nature, the Dollar Tree, and Valentine’s Day I created this Mini Branch Heart Wreath.
I have such fond memories of Valentine’s Day and my favorite Valentine’s growing up came from my parents. On Valentine’s day, unlike other special occasions, I would get a special something from each of them instead of a combined card. I would receive a very special (often hand made) Valentine from my mom and my dad would hand pick a card himself and write something special in it.
I worked with these same red branches when I made the Love Note Countdown to Valentine’s Day Heart Frame. I had many left over so I started making more rounded heart shapes and made three larger ones before deciding to try a mini one.
We moved out of State almost a year and a half ago and with COVID I haven’t gotten to see my parents since. It has been the longest time without seeing them and I miss them so much!! This Heart Wreath is for them for Valentine’s Day. They haven’t gotten to see our new town so I wanted to send them a small piece of it.

Supplies Needed to Make the Mini Branch Heart Wreath
- Branches
- Twine, small rope, string, or ribbon
- Artificial flowers – I got them at the Dollar Tree
- Glue gun
- Scissors
- Branch snips
- Wire cutters
Steps to Make the Mini Branch Heart Wreath
First, I snipped off two small branches of roughly the same length with the snips.
Then I attached the branches at the two cross sections, starting with the bottom one. To attach them, I tied the twine around the sticks and knotted it. Then I simply wrapped and knotted it again until it loosely held the branches. Branches have a mind of their own so with a few of the wreaths I had to wrap and knot several times. before getting a decent hold. Then I repeated this at the other end.
Next, I loosely tied the two knotted sections together to hold the heart shape. I intended to leave the connection piece and decorate it as well. However, many days passed between making the wreath and adding the flowers and it dried in shape so I cut out the middle section of twine.
I apologize but the pictures are from a larger wreath I made. The steps are the same though.
Next, I wrapped more twine at the junctions. I simply looped the string around the branch and pulled it tight. Then wrapped it around the connection area in no particular order. Finally I knotted it, trimmed any excess, and used a spot of hot glue to keep them in place.
Adding the flowers to the Mini Branch Heart Wreath
I think this would look so wonderful with dried flowers but they are hard to come by in the dead of winter so artificial flowers it is. Had I thought ahead I could have bought a bouquet to dry but that didn’t happen. It was more like, these have to go in the mail TODAY you better finish that wreath.
Adding the flowers is a fun and easy but hard to explain process as you just place and glue to your hearts content. A couple of tips though. Before placing and gluing I used wire cutters to trim just the buds off the stems and cut apart anything I wanted separate. I started with leaves and then just added flowers and leaves one at a time adhering them to the branch or one another with the glue gun. If the flower seemed flat I layered them to give them more height.
The backside = mess. I added the final leaf to cover some of it a little. I considered cutting cardboard or something to cover it but when hung it will not be visible.

I really love the way the mini one turned out with a natural lopsidedness to it. I placed the flowers on the side that naturally hung lower to really draw attention to it’s uniqueness.
Three Larger Heart Wreaths
I have yet to do anything with the larger branch wreaths yet. There just isn’t enough time in the day for all of the projects I want to do.
