Egg Tulip Bouquet – From Dollar Tree Items

Share

This Egg Tulip Bouquet – From Dollar Tree Items will bring lots of color to your Easter Decor. Added bonus, it was inexpensive and so so fun to make!

I ended up by happenstance with a garden themed Easter this year. It was lacking flowers though so I got busy creating some. I am so glad I did as these Egg Tulips added some unique Easter cheer to our home.

OK, let’s create!

Supplies

  • 6 Pack Plastic Eggs from Dollar Tree
  • Bamboo Skewers from Dollar Tree
  • Dollar Tree Spring Napkins and/or tissue paper
  • Green paint
  • Baby wipes
  • Container filler – I used Spanish Moss from the Dollar Tree
  • Container of choice
  • Floral Foam from Dollar Tree
  • Floral Leaves from Dollar Tree
  • Wax paper + egg carton (came with the eggs) to hold the eggs to dry
  • Mod Podge (Glossy)
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun or craft glue
  • Protective covering for your work space

As you can see I got nearly everything from the Dollar Tree keeping costs low. If you can’t find Mod Podge at the Dollar store you can get it at nearly any craft store or you can get some on Amazon.

Steps to make an Egg Tulip Bouquet

Decorating the Eggs

First things first, let’s decorate the eggs.  I started by doing a base layer of white on three and yellow on three. The yellow was some tissue paper I had on hand and the white was the back layer of the spring napkins.

You can prep the napkin or tissue paper any way you like but I found using smaller cut shapes such as triangles, strips, or squares to work best for me.  Once you have your pieces cut, simply apply a layer of mod podge on the egg with your paint brush and press the tissue paper on. Then apply a layer of mod podge over the top.  I found it easiest to just apply the top layer with my fingers. As far as getting the surface absolutely smooth…. don’t stress it!! I have two kids and limited craft time so I went with the raised bumpy look and ended up LOVING it.  It looks similar to paper mache. Once the egg surface was covered, I set them in the wax paper covered egg carton to dry.

Once that layer is dry. Apply the decorative napkins. I cut roughly around the design on the napkins here so I could choose what went where. I applied these pieces using the same process as above.

Once the eggs were covered to my liking, I carefully lifted them up and moved them to the egg carton to dry.

Making the Stems

Grab six skewers, baby wipes, and some paint. I would recommend a darker green as with this method it will show up lighter.  I wanted the stems to be green but didn’t want to deal with the mess of painting them. My solution, paint them with baby wipes. This technique gives the wood a more stained look and is pretty mess free. It is hard to see the stained look on a skewer but I did the same thing when I made my Cottontail Farms Sign and you can see it there.

Simply squirt some paint on a baby wipe and wipe it on the skewers. That’s it!

The leaves

Before adding the leaves, I broke the skewers in varying lengths.

Next I added some leaves which I just took off a faux flower bunch I had on hand. I removed all of the plastic, leaving just the silk leaves. Then I put the skewer through the hole of the leaf and pushed it up to where I wanted it. Finally, I wrapped it some and glued it.

I ended up only adding it to three of the six as I liked the look of less.

Putting it all together

I picked up this little container at a rummage sale for 50 cents years ago. It has served many purposes in its days with me but currently it has been sitting in my container hoarde not serving its full purpose. It screams spring to me so it is just such a perfect fit for these Egg Tulips. So many other containers would look just as great though. Had I not had this one, I think a small galvanized metal container would be lovely or a simple glass vase.

Ok back to our bouquet. I simply cut and added a little floral foam to the bottom of the container and topped it with moss.

Then I put in the skewer stems.

The eggs have little holes on the bottom so I just put the top of the skewers in the hole. It was a perfect fit. I didn’t even glue them on.

I added a couple little chicks I had in my decorations and DONE!
