~Autumn Wreath~ Simple and Only $7 to Make

Share

So pictured on my mantle with my very first EVER blog post, https://www.lovensthelife.com/our-thankful-tree-super-easy-and-under-5/ is a wreath I made in early fall of this year.

I know what you are thinking, “Lisa it is Christmastime!”

Well, FALL is my absolute favorite and as I was taking things down to change from orange, brown, and yellow to all things white, red, and green I wanted to share quickly how I made this simple wreath for only $7 and with no glue or mess.

I had this old window hanging on the mantel but empty and all alone. It got hung there mostly so it didn’t get broken with home update chaos but it didn’t take long for me to realize I liked it there with its unique personality and chippy red paint. I decided it had found its home and would be a fun piece to customize with the seasons & holidays. I have had this window for years and years. It was a rescue from an old shed that got torn down in the mountains of Montana. In past homes, it has hung in our bedroom with black & white photographs but in this home it has taken up residence in the living room. I didn’t mind it hanging there empty but as the leaves began to change and the air turned crisp I started looking for a wreath to hang.

As I was looking for a fall themed wreath to hang and not finding exactly what I wanted with price tags of $30-75 I decided I would figure a way to make my own.

I apologize but I do not have ‘in the making’ photos to share but will do my best to walk you through the construction without them.

Items needed to construct your very own autumn wreath for just $7:

  • Ribbon of choice – Picked up at the dollar store for $1 each (I used most of 2 spools)
    • You probably will not want anything sheer as I mostly added the ribbon to hide the wreath form.
  • Wreath – Picked up at the dollar store for $1
    • I used a wire wreath as it made connecting everything super easy and without needing glue.
  • Fastener of choice – I used a Binder ring I had on hand as I love all things office supply as much as craft stuff
    • You could use a keychain ring, ribbon, or any other old thing you can find though.
  • Leaf Garland – Picked up at the dollar store for $1 each ( I used 4)
    • I used 4 different ones for the varied leaf effect because I wanted all the colors!
  • Scissors – for cutting your ribbon

How to construct your wreath

  1. First, I wrapped the ribbon around the wire frame making sure it fully covered it. I then knotted the ribbon and cut off the excess.
  2. Next, I looped the hook ring through the metal on the wreath frame near where I had knotted the ribbon.
  3. Then, I hooked the eyelet at one end of the leaf garland onto the ring.
  4. I then began wrapping the leaf garland around the wreath frame and hooked the eyelet at the other end of the garland onto the ring. You might have to loosen or tighten your wrap to get the end eyelet into the ring. I repeated this for the other 3 strings of garland and fastened the ring.

  1. Finally, I looped a ribbon around the wreath frame over the connection areas (to hide the mess 😉 and so that I could hang the completed wreath.

Finished

Now how easy was that and all for $7!!

Your turn to create

I would love to hear if you gain inspiration from this post and make your very own Autumn Wreath!
