DIY Paintstick Snowman

Share

The little people in my home and I got to crafting and each made a DIY Paintstick Snowman this week.

As a stay at home mom, crafting has become my break. However, my kids love creating especially if it involves painting so it was past time to do some kid friendly projects.

I saw where a teacher had made snowmen like this but only larger and the kids height. Such a cute idea but I was looking for something smaller scale.

Video tutorial also available HERE on my YouTube Channel.

Ok…..Let’s Create!

Supplies List

  • Paintstick
  • Paint
  • Faux Snow
  • Black Sharpie
  • Orange Sharpie
  • Felt
  • Ribbon
  • Gems (optional)
  • Paintbrush
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

Instructions

Painting

First up was painting the paintsticks. I got out the white for mine and both kids chose blue.

Faux Snow

While the paint was wet we added a little faux snow to give it some dimension and texture.

The Accessories
The Hat

I used felt to make the hats. I just cut a rectangle long enough to cover the tapered end of the paintstick as well as tall enough to create a hat top. Each of the kids picked out their own color.

The Scarf

Then they picked out the ribbon they wanted to use for the scarfs and required lengths were cut off the roll. I have been learning how to loom knit so I used a practice piece I had made as my snowman scarf. You could also use material or felt.

Putting it all Together
The Hat

Once the paint had dried I used the hot glue gun to attach the hat on the backside. Then I added a little glue and pinched the top. I did this step for the kids since I used the hot glue gun.

The Scarf

I glued on the loom knit scarf for my snowman around the back and then tied it around front. For the kids, I helped them tie their ribbons on. No glue necessary.

You could use cut felt or material for the scarf as an alternative.

The Eyes, Mouth & Nose

I used Sharpie to color on the eyes, nose, and mouth. I never have real great luck getting marker on paint the first try so I had to go over it a couple times. The kids also used permanent marker for theirs. I just let them do as they wanted for how they drew on the face.

You could also paint them on with a brush or paint markers or you could cut shapes from construction paper and glue them on.

The Buttons

I had these little sticky gems out for another project so I used them. For the kids, they used Sharpie. Paint or cut circles would also work.

Done.

We had fun. The kids most enjoyed the painting and adding the fake snow.

Your Turn to Create

I would love to hear if you gain inspiration from this post and make your very own  DIY Paintstick Snowman
